I always enjoy painting with Matisse because I love all the primary
colors he uses along with many different patterns in one painting.
That's not really so easy to do and to make them all work together.
This painting was inspired by several of Henri Matisses paintings.
He painted several with guitars so he must have had some kind of'
interest in them and music. Wonder if he played?
He painted very few landscapes but I found this nice one to use
as the window scene. I have used similar drapes a few times but
had fun changing the pattern a bit and the colors.
Do you remember jumpsuits? I was thinking about a denim
one that I used to own when I was painting this one.
So...it looks like the girls are enjoying some wine and fruit
and Jammin with Matisse!
Enjoy!
A slow developer who, at the age of 35, found himself briefly the leader of the artistic avant-garde in Paris. He was significantly influenced, and liberated, by painting sessions shared with Paul Signac and Henri-Edmond Cross, and eventually enlarged their Pointillist dots into his own bold brushstrokes of vivid (and often unmixed) colors. Matisse maintained that he always selected colours that would follow his intuition and composed them in such a way as to stimulate intense feelings in the observer, also to balance pure and vivid colors in such a way as to arrive at an art of exciting serenity and resolution. Like those of Dufy, his paintings often display a daring spontaneity of color and contour and a rejection of the highlight-and-shadow tradition of European academic painting.
Henri Matisse’s palette: Flake White, Chrome Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Yellow Ochre, Scarlet Lake, Vermilion, Emerald Green, Viridian Green, French Ultramarine, Cobalt Violet, Ivory Black.
