Picasso- who doesn't love him!!  I found this great nude that
Pablo painted and had to do a composition around it. Of
course being a cat lover I needed to add them too.

This is very similar to another painting I did last year
but with changes that were meant for this collector
and this one is much larger as well.
The first one had one cat but my collector has three so
I added a couple more, all snoozing of course and
maybe enjoying the serenade from our lady in the painting?

Enjoy,  "Moonlight Serenade"

This is the original Moonlight Serenade and is 11 x 14.
With the New Moonlight Serenade  I added more cats,
the ottoman with the cat, changed the design on the sofa
and made several other subtle changes to also make it an
original for this collector. The above is also 14 x 18, much
larger Painting.

Email me if you see something that is sold
and you would like a similar painting with
elements that you like or I can design one just
for you.

A View of Rousseau, Interiors Painting Inspired by Henri Rousseau by k Madison Moore

SOLD

I guess I was in a pink and blue tones mood when I painted
this one. I designed it without the nude at first but the room seemed
it needed more life so here she is.

The rug was a lot of work but I think I captured that it is an
oriental rug and it works so well with the furniture and other elements.

I would love to have a view like this.
I always loved Henri Rousseau's " Flaming Painting"
which it the window view for this piece hence the title
" A View of Rousseau"
Enjoy!

Born May 21, 1844, in Laval, France, Henri Rousseau attended the lycée there until 1860. While working for a lawyer in 1863, Rousseau was charged with petty larceny and joined the army to avoid scandal. He never saw combat and did not travel outside France, but his colleagues’ adventures in Mexico inspired him to create legends of his own foreign journeys. Upon his father’s death in 1868, Rousseau left the army. The following year he entered the Paris municipal toll-collecting service as a second-class clerk; he was never promoted although he has traditionally been called  La Douanier  customs officer). In 1884 Rousseau obtained a permit to sketch in the national museums. He sent two paintings to the  Salondes  Champs-Elysées in 1885, and from 1886 until his death, he exhibited annually at the Salon

By 1893 Rousseau retired from the toll service on a small pension and began to paint full-time. The same year the artist met the writer Alfred Jarry, who encouraged him and introduced him into literary circles. In 1899 he wrote a five-act play entitled La Vengeance d’une orpheline russe. A waltz he composed, “Clémence,” was published in 1904. Rousseau became friendly with Robert Delaunay by 1906. In 1908 he began to hold musical and family evenings in his studio. Late that year Picasso arranged a banquet in honor of Rousseau, which was attended by Guillaume Apollinaire, Max Jacob, and Marie Laurencin, among others.

Though no contemporary artist was doing anything even remotely like his work, and critics were unkind (as critics so often are), Henri Rousseau remained supremely confident in his talent. He took it as his due that a younger generation of artists - Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, Redon, Gauguin and Kandinsky among them - would draw inspiration from and champion his vision. Rousseau's ultimate goal was to have his paintings hung in the Louvre. I am happy to say that this came to pass, if posthumously..
By 1909 Rousseau’s paintings were acquired by the dealers Ambroise Vollard and Joseph Brummer. His first solo show was arranged in 1909 by Wilhelm Uhde and took place in a furniture shop in the rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs. Rousseau died on September 2, 1910, in Paris. The same year an exhibition of his work in the collection of Max Weber took place at Alfred Stieglitz’s gallery “291” in New York. He was given a retrospective at the Salon des Indépendants in 1911.

Emotions in Blue Series

24 x 30 Nude Oil Painting on Canvas

Sold - Commission.

I painted a similar to this one a few years ago but a bit
smaller. I never get tired of painting my Blue Nudes. After
using so many colors all the time in my compositions it's fun
to stay in basically one colors with several hues. With this series
I always try to portray different emotions which is difficult
at times only using one tone. Very challenging!
Enjoy!

If you have an idea for a Blue Nude Painting
or if you see one you like that has been sold I can paint
a similar for you, email me

Sold Commission.

14 x 18 Oil Painting on Canvas

This is an example of repainting a similar painting to paintings
that are sold. So many collectors like painting that have already
been sold but really would like to have an original. My paintings
sell very quickly so my solution is to offer similar to sold paintings
but with subtle changes to make each one an original for that collector.
Many times I use the same title but / the collectors name on the end.

It is amazing how different they can look with some changes. In this
one I changed the back ground colors and many of the colors in the
furniture and flooring, added a new floral arrangement as well as
two different paintings on the wall and gave our lady a new face
and clothing and painted the piano black instead of red. This painting
is also larger format than the first.
What a big difference!

If you see paintings that are already sold and would like a
similar painted please contact me with your ideas. I can also add
colors and elements that you would like to have or I can design
a specific painting for you.

Picasso was exceptionally prolific throughout his long lifetime. The total number of artworks he produced has been estimated at 50,000, comprising 1,885 paintings; 1,228 sculptures; 2,880 ceramics, roughly 12,000 drawings, many thousands of prints, and numerous tapestries and rugs. At the time of his death many of his paintings were in his possession, as he had kept off the art market what he did not need to sell. In addition, Picasso had a considerable collection of the work of other famous artists, some his contemporaries, such as Henri Matisse, with whom he had exchanged works. Since Picasso left no will, his death duties (estate tax) to the French state were paid in the form of his works and others from his collection. These works form the core of the immense and representative collection of the Musée Picasso in Paris. In 2003, relatives of Picasso inaugurated a museum dedicated to him in his birthplace, Málaga, Spain, the  Museo Picasso MalagaThe Museu Picasso in Barcelona features many of his early works, created while he was living in Spain, including many rarely seen works which reveal his firm grounding in classical techniques. The museum also holds many precise and detailed figure studies done in his youth under his father’s tutelage, as well as the extensive collection of Jaime Sabartés, his close friend and personal secretary.

Several paintings by Picasso rank among the most expensive paintings in the world. Garçon à la pipe sold for US$104 million at  Sotheby's on 4 May 2004, establishing a new price record. Dora Mar au Chat  sold for US$95.2 million at Sotheby’s on 3 May 2006. On 4 May 2010,  Nudw, Green Leaves and Bust was sold at Christie's for $106.5 million. The 1932 work, which depicts Picasso's mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter reclining and as a bust, was in the personal collection of Los Angeles philanthropist Frances Lasker Brody, who died in November 2009. Christie's won the rights to auction the collection against London-based  Sotheby's. The collection as a whole was valued at over $150 million, while the work was originally expected to earn $80 million at auction. There were more than half a dozen bidders, while the winning bid was taken via telephone. The previous auction record ($104.3 million) was set in February 2010, by Alberto Giacometti's  Walking Man.

As of 2004, Picasso remains the top ranked artist (based on sales of his works at auctions) according to the Art Market Trends report.More of his paintings have been stolen than those by any other artist;  the Art Loss Register has 550 of his works listed as missing.

I love the passion of Guayasamin!!
With all that he saw and was exposed
to he still found sweet moments.

Oswaldo Guayasamín (6 July 1919, Quinto, Equador – 10 March 1999, Baltimore, United States was a Quechua  native and Ecuadorian  master painter and sculptor.

Oswaldo Guayasamín was born in Quito, to a native father and a Mestiza  mother, both of Quechua descent. His family was poor and his father worked as a carpenter for most of his life. He later worked as a taxi and truck driver. He was the first child of ten children in his family. When he was young, he enjoyed drawing caricatures of his teachers and the children that he played with. He showed an early love for art. He created a Pan-American art of human and social inequalities which achieved international recognition.

He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Quito as a painter and  sculptor. He also studied architecture there. He held his first exhibition when he was 23, in 1942. While he was attending college, his best friend died during a demonstration in Quito. This incident would later inspire one of his paintings, "Los Niños Muertos." This event also helped him to form his vision about the people and the society that he lived in.

Guayasamín met Orozco while traveling in the United States of America and Mexico from 1942 to 1943. They traveled together to many of the diverse countries in South America. They visited Peru, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and other countries. Through these travels he observed the indigenous lifestyle and poverty that appeared in his paintings.

Guayasamín's images capture the political oppression, racism, poverty, and class division found in much of South America..
Oswaldo Guayasamín dedicated his life to painting, sculpting, collecting. however,  His death on March 10, 1999 was marked by a day of national strikes by the indigenous people (whom he spent his life supporting) and other sectors of society, and was considered a great loss to Ecuador. He is still lauded as a national treasure.

it would. A very unusual, unique painting!

Face to Face with Magritte, Inspired by Rene Magritte by k Madison Moore

Face to Face with Magritte

14 x 18 Interiors Painting

Painting with The Masters
Art within Art Series

Sold - Commission

I really enjoy every painting that I paint. However, there are some
that just really excite me and this is one of them. The more I painted
the more excited I got. This one was so much fun that I didn't want it
to end so it took me much longer than I expected.

I researched several paintings and elements from Magritte that
the collector informed me she liked of his. I was able to use my
impressions of the elements that she wanted from about 11 Magritte
paintings. I really never know what I will come up with.

He must have enjoyed what he painted so much. They are all so
much fun and always make me wonder...."What was he thinking?"

The main painting that she wanted to focus on was Magritte's
La Repoduction Interdite, or better known as The Man in The Mirror

which became the theme for this painting.

It is actually a portrait of Edward James who was a famous collector and
patron of the Surrealists. There is a denial of logic in the image, which raises
questions about how much Magritte knows (or wants us to believe he
 knows) about the sitter’s identity.
Magritte plays a kind of game with reality. The image is evidently
refined yet seems to also be a void of some kind. It is very still and calm
yet threatening.

I thought it would be fun to add Magritte's Lounging Lady and have

her in the same juxtaposition basically looking back at him and then
in the foreground look at you!
Hence the title: "Face to Face with Magritte"

Confusing PerceptionWhen you create an odd juxtaposition that causes the
viewer to question the reality of what they see.
Transparency is often used to achieve this.

René François Ghislain Magritte (21 November 1898 – 15 August 1967) was a Belgian surrealist artist. He became well known for a number of witty and thought-provoking images that fell under the umbrella of surrealism. His work challenges observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality.

A Belgian surrealist painter, Rene Magritte’s witty and thought-provoking paintings sought to have viewers question their perceptions of reality, and become hypersensitive to the world around them. Magritte’s mother was a suicidal woman, which led her husband, Magritte’s father, to lock her up in her room. One day, she escaped, and was found down a nearby river dead, having drowned herself. According to legend, 13 year old Magritte was there when they retrieved the body from the river. As she was pulled from the water, her dress covered her face. This later became a theme in many of Magritte’s paintings in the 1920’s, portraying people with cloth covering their faces.

He began drawing lessons at age ten, and in 1916, went to study a the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he found the instruction uninspiring and unsuited to his tastes. He did not begin his actual painting career until after serving in the Belgian infantry for a short time, and working at a wallpaper company as a draftsman and producing advertising posters. He was able to paint full time due to a short-lived contract with Galerie le Centaure, allowing him to present in his first exhibition, which was poorly received.

Magritte made his living producing advertising posters in a business he ran with his brother, as well as creating forgeries of Picasso, Braque and Chirico paintings. His experience with forgeries also allowed him to create false bank notes during the German occupation of Belgium in World War II, helping him to survive the lean economic times.

Through creating common images and placing them in extreme contexts, Magritte sough to have his viewers question the ability of art to truly represent an object. In his paintings, he often played with the perception of an image and the fact that the painting of the image could never actually be the object. His artistic interpretations influenced many modern artists, including Andy Warhol, Jan Verdoodt and Jasper Johns. His art, which was especially popular during the 1960’s, has also influenced numerous songs, movies, and books.

I guess I had a flower moment. Dom and I have a lot of very artistic glass vases. This week we have been trying all kinds of long stem flowers to see what will work with the new dining table. I wanted to try Calla Lilies and couldn't find them anywhere so I guess this was my inspiration for this painting. Green is a difficult color to work with but I think this came out well, kind of romantic.  ..humm, wonder what's in that gift box? Enjoy!

Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez (December 8, 1886 – November 24, 1957) better known simply as Diego Rivera was a prominent Mexican painter born in Guanajuato  and husband of Frida Kahlo (1929–1939 and 1940–1954). His large wall works in fresco  helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement in Mexican art. Between 1922 and 1953, Rivera painted murals among others inMexico City, Chapingo, Cuernavaca,San Francisco, Detroit and New York City.[1] In 1931, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Clearly Kandinsky by k Madison Moore

Art within Art Masters Interiors Series

I just love Kandinsky! Imagine Hearing music when seeing colors!!! This is a rare condition but does exist. I have added some info on this below so now when you view Kandisky's work you will have a better understanding of it. Who knows, maybe you will hear music too!

I had a lot of fun using clear glass tables and getting the patterns and colors to show through. I was surprised when I found a few landscapes / skycaps that he did so decided to use one for the window scene. The floor and the back wall are also my impression of a couple of his works. He is always so colorful and happy in his work. A fun little boom box portrays a bit of music in the room....of course!
Enjoy!

Synesthesia  is a neurological condition in which stimulation  of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. People who report such experiences are known as synesthetes. Recently, difficulties have been recognized in finding an adequate definition of synesthesia as many different phenomena have been covered by this term and in many cases the term synesthesia ("union of senses") seems to be a misnomer.

Kandinsky, Wassily, Russian in full VASILY VASILYEVICH KANDINSKY (b. Dec. 4 [Dec. 16, New Style], 1866, Moscow, Russia--d. Dec. 13, 1944, Neuilly-sur-Seine, Fr.), Russian-born artist, one of the first creators of pure ab straction in modern painting.

Born in Moscow in 1866, Kandinsky spent his early childhood in Odessa. His parents played the piano and the zither and Kandinsky himself learned the piano and cello at an early age. The influence of music in his paintings cannot be overstated, down to the names of his paintings ImprovisationsImpressions, and Compositions. In 1886, he enrolled at the University of Moscow, chose to study law and economics, and after passing his examinations, lectured at the Moscow Faculty of Law. He enjoyed success not only as a teacher but also wrote extensively on spirituality, a subject that remained of great interest and ultimately exerted substantial influence in his work.
Kandinsky, himself an accomplished musician, once said “Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.” The concept that color and musical harmony are linked has a long history, intriguing scientists such as Sir Isaac Newton. Kandinsky used color in a highly theoretical way associating tone with timbre (the sound's character), hue with pitch, and saturation with the volume of sound. He even claimed that when he saw color he heard music.

"I applied streaks and blobs of colors onto the canvas with a palette knife and I made them sing with all the intensity I could..."
