Dora Marr, the photographer and painter who was Picasso’s lover and the principal model for many of his weeping woman portraits in the late 1930’s and 40’s. After their relationship ended she suffered from depression and opted to live in reclusion, living in the shadow of the image that Picasso created for her. Picasso said, I could never see her, never imagine her, except for crying. Is Dora thinking about Picasso here?
